Education has always been a priority with the residents of Harrisville Township. We are part of the Cloverleaf Local Schools which is a consolidation of five communities: Lodi, Seville, Chatham, Lafayette, and Westfield Center.
History of Education in our Township
1827 – Growth in the area made it necessary to divide the Township into three school districts. By the end of the Civil War interest in education increased. People of the area felt the need to establish a higher grade school than the local tax supported ones which went to the sixth reader. A group called “Advocates and Patrons of Education” pledged their support.
June of 1868 – Enough money was raised to start construction on The Academy Building on the slope known as “Orchard Lot”. Students from around the state and out of state attended the Academy, which remained open until 1878.
1879 – The Academy was purchased by Lodi School District and opened as a 3-year High school accepting enrollment of students from outlying districts through tuition.
