Lodi Community Hospital was the first hospital in Medina County, serving the citizens in the surrounding community since 1920. Starting out as a Victorian Residence, the hospital transitioned from a sanatorium for mild mental cases in its earliest days to housing typhoid fever patients during an outbreak after World War I, thus paving the way to establish it as a community hospital.
The hospital joined with Akron General Health System in 2000, greatly enhancing emergency, radiology, laboratory and respiratory therapy services. In 2001, the Federal and State Governments designated the hospital as a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital (CAH), a significant recognition that rural hospitals are a vital link to the health and well being of rural citizens.
Along with a state-of-the-art Emergency Department that offers 12 private treatment rooms and has earned several national awards for excellence in patient satisfaction, the hospital is fortunate enough to be one of only eight statewide bases for MedFlight of Ohio, which provides around the clock helicopter transportation for critically ill or injured patients from the hospital or accident scene to Akron General’s Level I Trauma Center or other designated hospital.
Located on Elyria Street (state Route 83), Lodi Community Hospital is easily accessible. Offering acute and skilled care nursing, outpatient diagnostic testing including open MRI and digital mammography, a primary care physician office, and a full range of rehabilitation and physical therapy services, the hospital is proud to serve the people and businesses in the Harrisville Township area. Area residents also benefit from numerous free and low-cost health screenings and programs made available by the hospital.
